(Photo: VNA)<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Vietnam resolutely opposes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.vietnamplus.vn\/tags\/Chinese-survey-vessel-group.vnp\"><strong>Chinese survey vessel group<\/strong><\/a>Haiyang\u00a0Dizhi\u00a08\u2019s continued serious violations of Vietnam\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.vietnamplus.vn\/tags\/sovereignty-right.vnp\"><strong>sovereignty right<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and jurisdiction in territorial waters as defined in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Foreign Ministry\u2019s spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang has said.<\/p>\n<p>While answering reporters\u2019 queries relating to Haiyang\u00a0Dizhi\u00a08\u2019s return to Vietnam\u2019s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf at a press conference on September 12, Hang said that Vietnam has also pointed out adverse impacts of the vessel group\u2019s violations on the friendship between the two countries, as well as peace, security and stability in the East Sea and the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor those reasons, Vietnam demands China to immediately stop its serious violations and withdraw all of the vessels from Vietnam\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.vietnamplus.vn\/tags\/territorial-waters.vnp\"><strong>territorial waters<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d she stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding China\u2019s recent statements on Vietnam\u2019s economic activities in its territorial waters, the spokeswoman affirmed Vietnam\u2019s consistent viewpoints that all of its maritime economic activities, including oil and gas exploitation, have been carried out within Vietnam\u2019s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf as defined from the land territory in line with the 1982 UNCLOS to which both Vietnam and China are members.<\/p>\n<p>Hang emphasised that the 1982 UNCLOS serves as the only legal basis for nations to determine their territorial waters as well as their rights to their territorial waters, which has been observed by countries, recognized by courts and supported by prestigious international lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, no country can give claims on waters in the East Sea that exceed geographical limitations and go beyond contents of the 1982 UNCLOS, she added.<\/p>\n<p>Illegal and unsuitable claims which are unconformable to the 1982 UNCLOS cannot be used as the foundations to assert the existence of disputed and overlapped waters, the spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n<p>These above-said acts that hinder Vietnam\u2019s oil and gas activities in its territorial waters are violating international law and the 1982 UNCLOS, Hang said.<\/p>\n<p>The spokeswoman also reaffirmed Vietnam\u2019s stance on its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.\/.<\/p><\/div>\n\n<p>Aufrufe: 538<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vietnam resolutely opposes Chinese survey vessel group Haiyang Dizhi 8\u2019s continued serious violations of Vietnam\u2019s sovereignty right and jurisdiction in territorial waters as defined in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Foreign Ministry\u2019s spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang has said.
