China launches the world’s biggest amphibious aircraft

China’s largest amphibious carrier has its first flight from Zhuhai Airport in Guangdong Province on Dec. 24.
This AG600 flew from Zhuhai Airport and had an hour-long flight before returning in the warm welcome of the crowd.

According to Xinhua, the AG600 seaplane crafted by the Aviation Industry Group (AVIC) for eight years is as big as a Boeing 737, with a wingspan of 38.8 meters, a height of 12.1 meters, maximum weight of 53.5 tons, the maximum speed reaches 500 km/h, can fly continuously 12 hours, the longest journey reaches 4.500 km. The AG600 is equipped with four engines and is capable of carrying 50 people in search and rescue operations at sea. It can also suck 12 tons of water for 20 seconds to carry out wildfire rescue.
The AG600 is designed for aerial firefighting, marine rescue, marine surveillance and protection. Chinese government agencies have ordered 17 aircraft for military and civilian use.

Meanwhile, according to AFP, the AG600 will be used for deploying Chinese projects in the South China Sea./.
