The 10th international conference on the East Sea themed “Cooperation for regional security and development” opens in Da Nang city on Thursday.
The conference was co-hosted by the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam, the Foundation for East Sea Studies, and the Viet Nam Lawyers’ Association. Discussion focused on the East Sea as the center of the Indo-Asia Pacific Region, the East Sea’s 10 years recap, evolving claims and positions over the East Sea: continuities and changes, the engagement and disengagement of major powers in the East Sea.
Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Vu Tung, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam, said the East Sea has been a main topic of countries’ policy making. He added: “Experts can recommend joint activities among governments to improve security and promote current regional mechanisms to peacefully manage disputes and resolve the East Sea complex issues.”
Participants analyzed strategic plans, identified the reasons behind tensions and calmness, and explored different approaches for conflict management in the East Sea./.
